Weatherbys is a family business which has been operating successfully since 1770. The core business is rooted in thoroughbred horses and is responsible for Racing Administration in the United Kingdom, as well as registering all thoroughbred horses in Britain and Ireland within The General Stud Book.

In Ireland, Weatherbys run an industry-leading laboratory service, Weatherbys Scientific, which has provided a range of multi-species tests to an international client base for more than 30 years. Weatherbys Scientific has become a worldwide centre of excellence in animal genotyping, especially in the ruminant sector, and has conducted over 3 million cattle DNA tests to-date. Our advanced DNA technology supports genomic evaluation programs that allow the global agricultural sector to make strategic breeding and management decisions.

In May 2022, Weatherbys purchased a stake in a software platform called DTREO which uses data to drive decision-making around genetic improvements for animals and plants.

As well as Bovine, Ovine & Equine we have recently partnered with the UK Kennel Club to provide Canine genetic health testing. Similarly, we work with multiple species including Aquaculture & Seafood having recently been awarded a contract to support a series of strategic breeding programs with focuses on animal health, generational intervals, and consistency of market ready product.

Weatherbys Scientific is an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory, is an institutional member of the scientific body of the International Society of Animal Genetics (ISAG) and it is also accredited by the International Committee for Animal Recording (ICAR).
